xsign Launch Covid-19 Protective Screens

Protective Screens for Office and Retail environments.

To help prevent the spread of infection, xsign has launched a range of protective screens that provide some barrier shielding from airborne transmission of Covid-19.

Protection from airborne diseases through a protective screen – sometimes referred to as a sneeze guard – is one of the best and most effective ways of providing protection in retail, hospitality and office environments. The protective screen provides a shield from coughs, sneezes and physical contact.

We know that transmission of COVID-19 takes place primarily though airborne particles and from infected surfaces. Alongside protective screens, xsign now offer a range of signs that advise the best way to stop transmission, and highlights both frequent hand-washing and coughing or sneezing actions. Washing hands is easy to do, but containing coughs and sneezes is more difficult. Scientists have analysed video footage slowed down to 2,000 frames per second that demonstrates that a fine mist of mucus and saliva can burst from a person’s mouth at nearly a hundred miles an hour and travel as far as 27 feet.

A single sneeze has the potential to cause infection, so to counter this, xsign has developed a range of clear screens that can be mounted to a variety of surfaces to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

A range of five different screen types have been designed, each with their own fixing method so that they can form robust barriers to protect employees and customers in shops, and colleagues in workspaces.  The screens have different applications in the workplace, and different fixing methods, suitable for a range of mounting points, meaning that we can cater for a wide range of environments.

Simple work stations are fairly easy to protect; you need only a large plastic shield between workers since they don’t have to interact in a physical sense, and if they do need to consult each other, they can do it via email phone calls or texting each other. Because most office workers are connected via a number of different electronic means, and can even hold meetings via an on-line meeting studio such as Zoom or Skype, there is actually little need to have anything other than unbroken clear plastic shields.  However, in a retail shop or businesses with face to face contact where you need to pass goods or documents and take money or card payments in return, then the screens cannot be unbroken and must have some means of allowing for transactions.

The best way to do this is to have a small opening, but this should be only big enough to get the goods or payment through so as to reduce the risk of any infection passing though the slot. xsign have developed solutions for both of these scenarios, and in multiple sizes too, so that they can fit any office or business.

The range of products:

Perspex Acrylic Protective Screen X40. This series of screens are designed to allow interaction with customers or other people via a small letter-box hatch hole in the lower edge of the screen. This design is completely flat and with two feet, set at 90° to the screen to stand it upright and steady. The X40 screen comes in sizes (height and width) 750mm x 600mm, 750mm x 800mm, 750mm x 1,000mm and 750mm x 1,200mm.  The opening in the screen is sufficient to pass fairly large objects and is suitable for shop workers or cash desks where something has to be passed between people.

Perspex Acrylic Protective Screen X66. This is a full-fitting screen that is designed to clip onto the side of a desk or table via two integral clamp features and is ideal for areas that require a quick-fit application such as on hot desks which might not need a screen all the time.  Sizes range from (height and width) 750mm x 800mm to 750mm to 1,600mm and will clip to most standard desks.

Perspex Acrylic Protective Screen X69. This design has a full-sized Perspex front and integral side wings that are intended to allow the fitting of screws to make it a permanent fixture wherever mounted. Sizes range from (height and width) 750mm x 600mm to 750mm x 1,200mm, with a bigger sister range that goes from (height and width) 950mm x 600mm to 950mm x 1,200mm.

Perspex Acrylic Protective Screen X71.  Similar in design to the X69, the X71 screw-fits along the bottom ledge only.  Sizes range from (height and width) 750mm x600mm to 75mm x 1,500mm.  Quick and easy to fit, the X71 is the option for a quick, semi-permanent solution.

Perspex Acrylic Protective Screen X73. Similar to the X69 and X71, featuring a screw fitting along the bottom edge, this option is generally for smaller applications, ranging from (height and width) 500mm by 800mm to 600mm x 1,500mm.

What is Perspex?

Perspex is a brand name for acrylic sheet. Acrylic is a commonly used name for Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA). Some of the most common brands available in the UK are Perspex, Plexiglas, Policril, Acryglas and Acrycast. It’s a strong plastic material with a clear, seethrough design.

Is Perspex Effective Against COVID-19?

Yes. Perspex offers a physical barrier shield from direct airborne viruses such as COVID-19, and will give your staff and customers assurance that they are safe.

Are These Screens Ready for Fitting?

Yes. Both the X40 and X66 screens have integral fitting lugs while the other brands have ears that can accept screw fitting, making their placement and securing flexible.

How many Screws should be used to secure these screens?

That depends on the dimensions of the screen, but for maximum security it is usually recommended that screws be placed every 200mm around locating edges.
