Signs Bulletin – Manifestation
Published on Thursday 6th February 2018
The hazard of unseen glass is identified in current UK building regulations part K:
Manifestation of glazing
K5.2—Transparent glazing, with which people are likely to come into contact while moving in or about the building, shall incorporate features which make it apparent.
The below diagram shows some typical ways to meet this provision with the new focus on glass door and opening edges, along with examples of recent solutions. Special consideration must be given not only to the position and suitable of banding and motifs but also now there is an emphasis on contrast with the visual background beyond to ensure safe legibility.
